Brian M. Haney

Brian M. Haney, is an associate with Cooley Manion Jones LLP, where his practice focuses on a wide variety of complex business and commercial litigation, employment law, and domestic relations issues. Prior to joining Cooley Manion Jones, Mr. Haney was a Law Clerk to the Justices of the Massachusetts Superior Court.

Mr. Haney's recent matters include:

  • Successfully negotiated a substantial severance package on behalf of a former senior executive of a national insurance company. Package was obtained in absence of an employment agreement and in an "employment-at-will" jurisdiction.
  • Represented multi-billion dollar utility company as trial counsel in matters related to negligent damage and destruction of company's facilities.
  • Crafted motions to dismiss and for summary judgment on behalf of multi-national service corporation concerning various employment-related claims in state and federal courts; motions allowed on all counts.


  • Mr. Haney received his B.A. from the University of Vermont in 2000, and his J.D., cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School in 2004 where he was a member of the Moot Court Board, a member of the Constitutional Law National Moot Court Team, and the winner of the Walter H. McLaughlin Appellate Advocacy Competition. Mr. Haney was also named to the Suffolk Journal of Trial and Appellate Advocacy in which his note on the prosecution of federal witness tampering was published.

    Mr. Haney is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He is a member of the American and Boston Bar Associations.

    Mr. Haney is originally from Sandwich, Massachusetts. He and his wife, Andrea, now reside in Winchester.
